This is part of my series about the Seven Hermetic Principles and the 12 Universal Laws. Visit my post Diving into the Universal Laws and Hermetic Principles to find the links to all of the Laws and Principles.
Have you heard about the Law of Attraction? Surely you have, in fact, you may think it’s a bunch of baloney because it hasn’t quite worked in the way you want it to.
I, like many, was introduced to the Law of Attraction back when the book The Secret was making its way onto everyone’s book club list. I found the concept extremely fascinating, totally resonated with it and had been interested in it for about 12 years until I discovered the rest of the Universal Laws.
Rhonda Byrne brought a concept to me that blew my mind and set me on a completely different life path. For that, I am truly grateful to her. Here’s the thing though, she kind of didn’t go all the way like she should have. A lot of people resonated with the concept, stuck with it and are doing amazing. The other half (or more) thought it was a bit of a joke, didn’t get the dream car/house/vacation they wanted and shoved it off to the side like it was another fad.
Ms. Byrne did a great thing by bringing the concept to the masses, but there is so much more and I’m going to do my best to explain it a little more in depth.
What is the Law of Attraction? Basically, it states that with the power of your mind, you can attract whatever you want to you. This is usually referred to as manifestation. What is manifestation? The dictionary says that it is an event, action or object that clearly shows or embodies something. The key word here is “embody,” which is something that is something that sometimes gets left out of the Law of Attraction process.
Let’s go back to my pyramid diagram below. This concept came to me during a class with my mentor, Kim Woods. Our group was discussing the Universal Laws and this visual popped into my head and made perfect sense to me. On the bottom of the pyramid, you can see five laws: Law of Attraction, Law of Action, Law of Perpetual Transmutation, Law of Compensation and Law of Relativity. These five laws are always in play in everyone’s life. They are what I like to call: natural manifestation.
Whether you are meaning to or not, you are always holding some state of vibration that is casting out a frequency to the Universe and are manifesting what you have. This is the very basic concept of the Law of Attraction. That is what was released as the “big secret” to the world.
Knowing about the Law of Attraction is great, using the Law of Attraction to get what you want is a whole other ball game. In fact, I would go so far as to say that “the secret” is not necessarily knowing how to leverage the Law of Attraction to your advantage, but truly knowing what you want.
“But, Kristy, I know I want a multi-million dollar dream house, drive a Porsche and be able to buy whatever I want, whenever I want!” Is that what you really want? Or is that what you think you want? Everyone thinks they really, really know what they want. They also think that if they visualize really hard about what they want, then the Law of Attraction will bring it to you. Sometimes that’s true, but most of the time it’s not.
Now, one thing that was not mentioned in the Secret (or at least it was mentioned very briefly in a vague way) was the Law of Action. The Law of Action goes hand in hand with the Law of Attraction, but did you know about the Law of Action before I just mentioned it? Maybe yes, maybe no. Either way, it’s also an important piece of the Universal Law Pyramid Puzzle.
I’ll dive deeper into the Law of Action later, but the Law of Attraction is something that is working with you all of the time. Whether it works the way you want is the matter of perspective (via the Law of Relativity-what?!)
I was really vague about this law, right? I could go into a whole book on what the Law of Attraction is, how to visualize what you want and be grateful in order for you to get what you want, but that’s already been done. It has been done well, too. The only issue is that it’s not working for some people the way they want it to. It’s not working because they are turning one cog in a big contraption that isn’t quite connected to everything else. It’s essential to connect all of these laws so that they manifest for you instead of against you. Not just so that you can get what you want, but so that you can live your best life regardless if you have what you think you want or not.
Here are some tips to help you get really in tune with what you want so that the Law of Attraction will work with you:
1. Make a list of what you want- Does that seem easy? Maybe it is, or maybe it’s not. Some people have a really tough time figuring out exactly what it is they want, I am in this camp. I don’t always have an end result or path to take when I want something, so I can’t imagine what I want my life to be like. It’s all very vague to me and I always hang on this precipice of “Do I really want this?” Putting out those mixed signals to the Universe attracts the goods to you, but very slowly. How do you speed that up? I try to visualize what I will feel like instead of what it is I really want. Do you want to start a business? Or go on a huge trip? Don’t know what kind of business or the exact location of your dream vacation? Tap into the feelings of freedom you’ll have when you can make your own schedule. Or the relaxation you feel when you are staring out at the beach/mountains/forest when you are drinking your morning coffee. Putting out feelings is just as powerful as visualizing down to the exact house you want to rent out on VRBO. Remember that embodiment word in the definition of manifestation? That is the key to getting what you want, you have to feel your way to it instead of thinking your way to it.
2. Let it go!- Visualize Elsa signing her heart out as you release your thoughts into the Universe. You can’t fixate on something you want because you are shifting the Law of Attraction into something like the Law of Repulsion. That’s because when you think about something all of the time, your brain tends to try and figure out ways that it can acquire that object or reach that goal. When you do that, you aren’t open to ALL of the possibilities that are out there.
For instance, if you want more money, then keep thinking that you have to work harder because you don’t see any other way to acquire money, then you might miss something. Maybe a business opportunity comes up, but you completely miss it because you’re so focused on putting your nose to the grindstone. What if you are so focused on the actual cold hard cash you want in your hand or bank account, but don’t take the time to be grateful for the free cup of coffee your co-worker bought you? A free coffee is money in a sense, right? The Universe is constantly working for you, you just need to let go of how it will happen because the potential possibilities are truly endless.
3. Always be grateful- If you did read The Secret, then you know this was the core underlying theme throughout that book. For very good reason. When you are grateful for what you have, and always look on the sunny side of life, you really do get more stuff!
Have you ever noticed when you are in a good mood and then talk to someone who tells you everything that’s going wrong in their life that you start to feel bad, right? Maybe you start to commiserate, or complain about how you are/were going through something similar, etc. You work each other up until, inevitably, you are in a bad mood just like them.
This is human nature, we all do it. However, by stopping ourselves before we go down that negative spiral and turning our annoyance into gratitude, you will find that your vibrations stay higher, and better things come your way. It may sound cheesy to you, but and “Attitude of Gratitude” is really the best place to start down this path of alignment.
